Nice Boat. Still for-sale? How are the teak decks in-terms of leakage and/or time before they need to be replaced? How much for new owner to realistically spend in the first two/three years to keep her in top-notch shape? Tankage type and age? Any tankage leaks? Engine hours and are there any fluid leaks? Anything in need of replacement/repaie? All items mentioned in working condition? Looks very nice in the pictures. Why are you selling her? Any oxidation of the mast/boom/spreaders? Any need for re-painting of spar? Sorry for the questions. Its just that during a survey, I walked away from a seemingly very nice 40' sailboat this week due to owner neglect of all things not in plain sight and non-use and the cost to get her ship-shape was north of $25K. Thank you, Stuart

Great pictures. We just made the same trip from Honolulu (Kewalo Basin) to Morro Bay California. It took us 27 days also and only 2800 miles more rhumbline than you guys.

There were four men on board Go For Broke and it took us 5 tries from Hawaii before we finally made it all the way. Various boat systems failed on previous trips but not all at the same time.

Go For Broke is a steel and aluminum cutter at 60 feet in length. It was built by the Mad Russian in Hawaii at Sand Island in the mid 80's.

We really enjoyed our trip also and would do it again in a Ney York minute.

Thanks for posting your pictures I will try to post ours soon.

Great videos! My question isn't about your trips but more about the boats sailing characteristics. We are just in the early process of looking at blue water cruisers and we love the HC38's. We sail in New England waters where the winds are pretty light, but I would love to do some extended cruising later on in life. From reading about these boats it sounds like it takes a good amount of wind to get them moving well. What are some of your findings on how they sail? I'm most interested in how they point? Do you have problems keeping the stay sail shape correct or does it get loose when the yankee is full and sheeted in? Does she sail well into a three to four foot chop or do you just tend to power or fall off the wind? Thank you for any information that you can give.

Great entry about a passage that we're about to undertake - Kauai > SF - and we enjoyed the youtube video as well. I was wondering, is your actual route visible anywhere on your blog? Just curious to try and compare your route with Cornell's suggestions, historical position of the NP High, and all that. We were thinking of mid-June, but are considering July as well. Anyway, again congrats on a great passage in a lovely boat and a fun blog/video combination! Fair winds, Mike & Larissa, S/Y Walk On, currently in Ala Wai SBH.

Hi there,
I got your name from July's Cruising World where Susan writes about her HotPot. I have checked them out on their website but can't find what size the hotpot is anywhere. Can you help with this - how many quarts would it hold?
thanks
Liz

~ and congrats on a great blog :-)
